A chrome plated, enamel painted, set of of cocktail picks in Macassar ebony stand. This stunning and exceptionally rare Art Deco set of six cocktail picks all sit beautifully in a whimsical stand that features a cut out metal figure of a man in his 'all whites' getting hit in the face by a rouge tennis ball. Each of the chrome plated picks is topped with a white tennis ball, all of which are hand cut out of ivory. Tennis balls, during this period were all white, and only became yellow in 1972 when it was deemed that they were easier to follow for spectators. Wimbledon did not move over to the yellow tennis ball until 1986. The piece is in excellent condition, and has all the original picks present. This set was designed by the very highly regarded French artist Sudre and retailed by the French company Cado. They were known for making a series of novelty cocktail picks for the home bar, some sporting such as boxing and golf, but also sailing and horse riding. The base is marked 'A.L Dopsé', 'Made in France' and the retail stamp for 'Cado'. Circa 1925.
